November 2022: THIS ROUTE IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED AS CYCLING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED from Blacknest Gate to the Savill Garden.
Once through Blacknest Gate Arc 9 takes the road north via the Guards' polo pitch to Cumberland Gate - prime cycling conditions - but this detour is even more picturesque. The family friendly section is all the riding within the Great Park (Arc 9, Spoke 7a and 7b)
Immediately turn right and keep Virginia Water on your left, passing the Cascade 1.5 and Virginia Water Centre 1.7. This path is often very busy with walkers, dogs, families, joggers – care and courtesy! The link from Virginia Water enters the park here.
After leaving the lakeside a gentle climb past Totem 2.2 brings you to The Savill Garden 2.9. Thereafter the crowds disperse and the rest of the park is magnificent cycling, merging with Arc 9 Cumberland Gate 3.6 then parting 3.8. The spoke continues N to merge with Spoke 7a near Bishops Gate.
