Description

The first Spoke Link (one of five spoke routes that do not directly connect to Cycle Orbital) starts at Bromley, for faster trains from Victoria and more connections than Hayes.

R Mead Way 1 and L Bourne Vale for Hayes station 2. From there it is the same route as Spoke 2W to R Nash Lane 3.7. L Layhams Road 4.7 beside the Metropolitan Police Dog Training Centre. NCN21 merges from R at crossroads 6; follow its signs for the remaining miles – a delightful ride on minor lanes, but mostly off-road with a variety of surfaces. At Fickleshole a short off-road section with unstable surface drops steeply into a valley; best to walk.  After Chelsham Common 8.5 and crossing B269 Croydon Road 9.1 you arrive at a viewpoint over the  Halliloo Valley 9.4. Descend with caution, traverse golf course, and after a couple more twists and turns (Woldingham Road 10.4 leads straight to Woldingham) the Link and NCN21 join Spoke 3 for the beautiful climb up Marden Park to Winders Hill and Cycle Orbital Arc 6
