Description

From Bushey use S exit, cross by pedestrian lights and descend to roundabout and enter Oxhey Park. Follow NCN 6/61 signs for St Albans off-road through Watford suburbs for some miles.

After crossing under the M1 you pass the Bricket Picture House 4.2 and cross Spoke 11NW at Bricket Wood 4.5. This spoke follows NCN6/61 signage except, to keep to its rural/quietway brief, it follows a different course from L Lye Lane 5.6 (take care crossing A405 6.8) past a light aircraft airfield 7.6, along delightful Furze Bushes and Ragged Hall Lanes before meeting NCN signage briefly 8.9 while crossing the A414 overpass.

But the section along B4630 is brief and suburbs take over L Midway 9.2 until into Verulamium Park on an off-road path, first past Roman walls, then crossing Arc 12 innerpassing “oldest Inn” Ye Olde Fighting Cocks before magnificent St Albans Cathedral. Down Fishpool St 10.6 then side streets and paths to rejoin NCN6 12.1 in New Greens suburbs. NCN6 soon follows the old A6 trunk road, with variable success; Cycle Orbital suggests leaving the track in Harpenden, crossing over onto West Common 15.3 past Rothamsted Research Centre 15.5Unless visiting the High Street, follow NCN6 signage past Harpenden to Spoke's end.
