The due east spoke from Crew’s Hill down to Enfield Lock starts with a short uphill climb due west! But soon L through Crew’s Hill golf course 0.2 after which a shallow stile 0.7 warns of a short descent to cross the railway (dismounted: Stop Look Listen!). The intermittent NCN12 joins 0.9; NCN12 is not yet completed westwards, despite a seductive sign indicating Hadley Wood 3. When upgraded off-road this will make Spoke 12-Spoke 1E Link more enjoyable.
At Clay Hill Church R 1.2 on a new graded cycle path along Turkey Brook through Forty Hall estate. We are sharing - care and courtesy - with those walking the London LOOP (London Outer Orbital Path). We meet again for instance on Spinoff 1-2-3 link, Spinoff 3 and Arc 3, on Spokes 8, 8-10 link and Spoke 11NW – but generally the LOOP lies within Cycle Orbital; with its shorter radius it is 150 miles/240Km in circumference.
Turn R to visit the Forty Hall 3.2, then at Bull’s Cross Road 3.3 the LOOP passes straight on, crossing A10 by high footbridge (steps); it’s better to turn L, past Myddelton House and gardens 3.5. R Turkey St to cross A10 by underpass. Turkey Street 4.2 , R then L Longfield Ave to Albany Park 4.9. A shallow porterage over footbridge 5.2 (L Enfield Lock 200m), followed by a cycleable bridge over A1055 for the Lee Navigation canal at Enfield Lock.
