Description

Two National Trust properties flank the start of the route; Clandon Park W and Hatchlands E. After canals, city, estuary and downland, a new landscape opens up; broad river valley, though the first miles are through open country falling gently from the Downs. Clandon is accessible via byway 1.3, avoiding otherwise very busy roads to W and S.

L Gambles Lane 2, L Rose Lane  3.3 to Ripley 4. Cross the High St bearing R onto Ripley Common. A short byway, Fox Way, takes you to the Wey Navigation at lovely Walsham Lock 4.8. The towpath ride is occasionally rough, but mostly good; it’s one of the most peaceful stretches on the system. At Pyrford Lock 5.8, you can take Wisley Lane to RHS Wisley.

Dodd’s Bridge 6.4 is an unlikely junction point. Straight ahead is Spoke 6 to Hampton Court; cross it for Cycle Orbital via byway, then R 7 onto Pyrford Rd to West Byfleet.
