Feltham was the only Zone 6 Oyster station omitted from Cycle Orbital. The reason: the ride to Staines was on suburban and busy roads via Ashford with seemingly no viable off-road or pleasing alternative route. Staines, Egham and Virginia Water stations are generally worth the extension fares to access Windsor Park, but on a subsequent exploration a viable recreational route was found through this unprepossessing area known for prisons, detention centres and Heathrow marginalia.
The path alongside the railway ducks under 0.5, and you are soon in the inappropriately-named The Pitts park on hoggin-surfaced paths. After, the centrepiece is lovely Bedfont Lakes Country Park 1.6, but then back to suburban roads. The original route through Ashford was with no - or even worse, wholly inadequate - cycle provision, but (July 2025) an alternative was found: first zig-zagging on side roads, but then on Woodthorpe Road, past HMP Bronzefield, which underpasses the busy A308 - a great advantage. Fortunately the route ends splendidly (L Riverfield Road 5.7) by merging with Spoke 6-7 on the Thames towpath just below Staines.
